When a person who was baptised in infancy feels they are ready to make their baptismal vows for themselves (infants baptismal vows are made by Parents and Godparents) there is a Service of Confirmation in which this can be done. (The word ‘Confirmation’ is from the Latin – confirmare – meaning ‘to make firm’).

The Bishop presides at a Confirmation which usually takes place at a service of Holy Communion.

Prior to Confirmation, candidates are expected to attend a number of teaching sessions or ‘Confirmation Classes’ which should help them to understand the responsibilities of adult Christian life, which are later referred to by the Bishop at the Confirmation Service; Confirmation is a conscious step into Christian discipleship.

Once a person has been ‘Confirmed’ in their Christian faith, they can then take part in the sacrament of Holy Communion.

If you are interested in Confirmation come along to any service and have a chat with us.
